The discipline of Ethics at Renmin University of China is the earliest established place for ethical study and teaching in new China. In 2000, The Center for Ethical and Moral Studies was approved as a key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education.
The current director is Professor Cao Gang, and the deputy director is Associate professor Li Maosen, Associate Professor Guo Qiangxiang and Associate Professor Zhang Xiao. The office director is Associate Professor Wang Fuling.
The Centre has made effective exploration in making use of its highland advantage, integrating the superior academic resources and powers. It has set up such research institutes as Marxist Ethics, Chinese Ethical Thoughts, Western Ethical Thoughts, Applied Ethics, Bioethics, Professional Ethics, Political Ethics, Economic Ethics, World Folk Culture, Rural Ethics and Cultural Construction, as well as Luo Guojie Ethics Education Fund which belongs to the School Foundation Committee.
Currently, there are 37 professional and part-time researchers, including such internal key academic figures as professors Song Xiren, Jiao Guocheng, Yao Xinzhong, Gong Qun, Xiao Qunzhong, Wu Fulai, Cao Gang, Hao Lixin and Liu Jianjun, and such external experts(researchers or professors) as Chen Ying, Tang Kailin, Wan Junren, Wu Qiantao, Wang Xiaoxi, Fan Heping, Li Jianhua and Jiang Chang.
Guided by academic theories and practical concerns, the Center has made great efforts to construct the "six-in-one" platform of academy, political consultation, communication, talents and information, and it has thus been increasingly coming to be an academic center and thought tank on which our country and society can both rely.
